Galapatha Raja Maha Viharaya
An ancient riverside temple believed to be over 2,000 years old, Galapatha Viharaya is one of Bentota’s most historically important spiritual sites. Once protected by Sri Lankan kings, it is famous for housing a sacred relic of Arahant Kashyapa Thero, one of the Buddha’s enlightened disciples. The temple complex includes ancient stone inscriptions, stupas, and legends of underground tunnels used to protect monks and relics during invasions.
Kande Viharaya TempleThis grand and active temple complex is home to one of the tallest seated Buddha statues in the world. Located on a small hill in Aluthgama, it draws pilgrims daily and features richly painted image houses, shrines, and a vibrant atmosphere.
